At present I, together with a colleague, am caring for a client with dementia. The client is also non-weight bearing most of the time and is extremely heavy. Stubborness is the order of the day so the use of a hoist is out of the question. This person-centred caring is great in theory but in practice creates challenges unheard of before this. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to deal with violence and stubborness? The emotional drain on us carers is unreal.

One Response to Dementia – the unpredictability of the condition

I can’t imagine how hard that must be on a carer, and it’s a good thing that there was more than one of you. Which leads me to believe that support for a carer is the most important thing there is. Good thing the Professional Carers Association exists eh?
